What is a B Corp?

In 2014, our B Corp community won the Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship.  This video showcases what separates our B Corp Community from businesses with a singular focus of generating profit:

What it Measures

Certified companies meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

Certifying Organization

B Lab, nonprofit; since 2007

How Often Recertified

Every two years

Certification Cost

$500 to $50,000 depending on company revenues

What Certification Involves

Companies complete online B Impact Assessment. B Lab staff reviews assessment, verified documents and does on-site evaluation. Companies must also meet legal requirements.

July Birthdays

A very happy birthday to our team members celebrating in July:
We hope your birthday is a hoot!

July Anniversaries

Happy anniversary to our July starts. If for each snack the team members received a set of our Charmingly Delicious Caramel Trio, then together they would have consumed 13,392 caramels.
13,392 Caramels. How do you measure a year?

Tuition Reimbursement

Any UncommonGoods year-round team member who has been with us for six months or more, has worked at least 520 hours in the preceding 6-month period, and is actively on the payroll at the time of course completion is eligible for tuition reimbursement based on the tuition costs for the prevailing CUNY rate.

For undergraduate work, we will reimburse up to 100% for an A or B and 75 % for a C for up to four classes per calendar year. Coursework can be toward any undergraduate degree.
For post-graduate courses or certifications, your manager and Human Resources will determine reimbursement amounts on a case-by-case basis. Coursework must be toward an area that pertains to your role at UncommonGoods.

Any team member interested in continuing their education through education unit courses, seminars and/or workshops must get it approved by their manager and Human Resources prior to the beginning of the course.

B with Us: Teatulia

Teatulia is a fellow B Corp that our resident tea lovers would appreciate. They responsibly cultivate their tea and have containers that are completely compostable. As a member of a fellow B Corp, you can receive 20% off using the code bcorp20 during checkout using their online store.

B Corp Impact Score Unveiling!

This Thursday, we'll be announcing our 2016 B Corp Score during our unveiling and celebration at The Landing in Industry City. Thank you all for helping us continue to show how business can be used as a force for good.

In 2014, we scored 111 points. How do you think we scored this year?
It’s been a banner year for sustainability at UncommonGoods. We’ve started a sustainability
committee; created the Uncommon Corps to provide paid volunteer opportunities with our Better to Give partners; will soon be offering a sustainability workshop where you can learn how you can get involved; helped successfully advocate for paid family leave legislation….and on Thursday we will be announcing the results of our B Impact Score!

This year's B Corp Assessment featured a new version with more challenging criteria. How do you think we scored? Send estimates to Sean at scullen@uncommongoods.com
